This is InterEcho 1.01/b03, a free demo and beta version. There may
still exist some bugs so please TAKE A BACKUP of your message base
and your echomail packets BEFORE you try InterEcho. It will stop
working on 09-30-94.
All the changes you make in the setup and all the folders and links
you add will be used by future upgrades of InterEcho, including the
version you get if you purchase a license.
This version supports forwarding of echomail to downlinks. If you
don't want to offer all echomail areas on your own BBS, you may
define some areas as passthru. This version can toss and scan
messages direct to/from Wildcat! 4.0, Wildcat 3.5+, PCBoard 15.0+,
JAM, Hudson and Fido *.msg.
Soon there will be new free demo/betas with support for Squish,
Novell MHS, Searchlight, Syncronet, Ezycom, Powerboard, Renegade and
other message formats.
Please report your opinion, suggestions and bugs via netmail to us,
or post a message in the INTERMAIL echo on FidoNet backbone.
There is currently no manual on file, but since most of the settings
on IESetup are pretty straight forward, this shouldn't be a big
problem for you. We will add a short guide in future demo versions.
If you purhase a license, you will receive a nice 80+ pages printed
manual.

InterEcho 1.01 beta 03 What's new - Sep 01 1994
=====================================================================
Wildcat! 4.0
------------
The biggest news in this version is the direct support for both
echomail and netmail in Wildcat! 4.0. All you need to do is enter the
path to your Wildcat home directory and the conference number for each
folder.
IESetup
-------
The second biggest news is the completely new setup program IESetup.
It is easy to use and similar to GUI type Windows. We recomend you use
a mouse. It replaces the settings for InterEcho earlier added to the
InterMail setup program IMSetup.exe.
Miscellaneous
-------------
* Area Group letters lets you arrange your folders in groups.
* Folder template lets you set config options to use when you create a
new folder. Speeds up manuall adding of new folders.
* The former folder for Bad areas has been replaced with two new
folders: Unlisted areas and Unsecure areas.
* Extended link manager lets you easier set options for up and
downlinks.
* Packet password for higher security.
* Option to set numbers of days to keep dupe data.
* Option to set your own log file name and path, or to let InterEcho
start with new log file each day.
* Minor bugs fixed.
* Faster tossing and scanning, but it will be even faster later on.
=====================================================================
InterEcho 1.00 beta 15 What's new - Jul 30 1994
=====================================================================
* The following command line parameters have been added:
intrecho /scan = Scan only, don't toss
intrecho /toss = Toss only, don't scan
intrecho = No parameters still means both toss and scan
* Fixed a bug that caused messages not to be scanned out - tricky
because it was completely random. Some people had it happen all the
time while others never saw the problem. It also gave file block
error with Wildcat.
* SEEN-BYs should finally be stripped in PCBoard format and the line
wrapping should be improved as well.
* Fixed a bug that sometimes caused outgoing echomail archives to be
overwritten.
=====================================================================
InterEcho 1.00 beta 14 What's new - Jun 27 1994
=====================================================================
* Downlinks! You can now forward echomail to others. The list of
downlinks is stored in a standard AREAS.BBS file.
* Passthru areas. You can define an echomail area as "passthru" in
the Folder Manager of IMSetup, meaning that you only send it on to
others, without storing it in your local message base.
* Much faster dupe database update! The daily dupe database processing
has been completely rewritten. It is now approximately 25 times
faster than before (down from 104 seconds to 4 seconds in one test).
Your old dupe database files will be removed automatically and
replaced with the new format.
* Tiny SEEN-BYs. IMSetup allows you to configure Tiny SEEN-BYs for
each area. It means that any node NOT connected directly to you for
echomail are removed from the SEEN-BY list. It saves space and
transfer time.
* A bug that in some cases could pack a message in the wrong outgoing
packet has been fixed.
* Fixed bug in the import to Hudson format: occasionally a text block
would get the wrong length in the middle of a message, which could
cause some message editors to crash.
* The code that handles forwarding of echomail to downlinks is not
omptimized yet. The processing may be a little slow, especially if
you have many areas and only feed a few of them to downlinks. This
will be corrected soon, when the preprocessing of the mail packets
is further refined.
Please report bugs and strnge behaviours asap via netmail to
1:369/102. Please describe your hardware and software setup, and
don't forget to mention what message format you use and also add the
log file.

files and file attach netmails on each scanning.
* Several minor adjustments.
=====================================================================
InterEcho 1.00 beta 07 What's new - Jan 25 1994
=====================================================================
* Amount of reserved heap for PCBoard format increased. Should take
care of the errors when shelling to PKUNZIP repeatedly.
=====================================================================
InterEcho 1.00 beta 06 What's new - Jan 12 1994
=====================================================================
Hudson
------
This version can toss and scan direct to/from a Hudson message base.
The IMsetup has been updated to not complain about missing support of
Hudson in InterEcho.
Dupe Checking
-------------
This version creates a database of information about all messages
that has passed the system during the last days. This is stored in
IEDUPES.IX and IEDUPES.DAT, both located in \IM\SYSTEM.
The scheme that is used is very secure, but we are concerned about
overhead. On the other hand, the dupe database is only purged once
every 24 hrs, normally the first time you run the program after
midnight. We would appreciate reports on processing times, etc.
Miscellaneous
-------------
* Support for A-Z as the last character in the file name extension
for incomming compressed echomail. Exampel: *.MOA - *.MOZ.
* Stripping "Re: " from subject lines on incoming messages.
* Some minor fixes
=====================================================================
InterEcho 1.00 beta 05 What's new - Dec 30 1993
=====================================================================
NOTE! Changed file name
-----------------------
InterMail versions prior to 2.26 has used FOLDER.CFG, but from
InterMail 2.26, the file name is IMFOLDER.CFG. The format has been
changed. If you haven't done so before, you must run FOLDCVT.EXE
before using IMSetup or the InterMail editor. Your old FOLDER.CFG
will be retained, so you can go back to the previous version of
IMSetup and the InterMail Editor, if you wish. FOLDCVT will be able
to find FOLDER.CFG if you have the usual environment variable set:
SET IM=c:\im
Plannet Connect
---------------
If you are using Plannet Connect, you may receive more conferences
then you want, i.e. has entered in the folder manager. Messages to
unlisted echomail areas is usually tossed to the "Bad area". This can
create a problem, if the number of messages is high. You now have the
the option to not save them at all. See IMSetup --> Manager -->
Echomail --> Save bad.
Save bad = No
Miscellaneous
-------------
* Max number of folders increased to 1000.
* The folders defined in the Echomail manager no longer display the
useless uplink and areatag fields as in previous betas.
* Fixed reply problems and lock-ups in Wildcat!
* Changed field name from "Board" to "Conf #" in folder manager.
* Fixed seen-by and path problems.
=====================================================================
InterEcho 1.00 beta 04 What's new - Dec 30 1993
=====================================================================
* Fixes scan of outbound messages in PCBoard format.
* Lines longer than 80 characters are no longer truncated before
going to the log.
* Memory is used more efficiently. It raises the minimum memory
requirements to about 300 K (smaller for *.msg only), but the
buffers are no longer re-allocated when switching between folders
of the same message format.
* PCBoard 15.0+ message format implemented. It looks pretty fast even
without much in the way of optimizations...
* New methods have been implemented to eliminate unnecessary rescans.
* A new semaphore file has been added to prevent IMSetup from sorting
the folder list while InterEcho is working.
* The log name will automatically change every day, e.g.
IE931026.LOG, IE931027.LOG, etc.
* The supported compression formats are now: all flavors of PKZIP,
Pak 2.51, as well as ARC. Other formats (LHA, ARJ) will follow in
later versions.
